Zolpidem Tartrate is a hypnotic, or sedative, used for the treatment of insomnia or other sleep disorders. It is usually prescribed after other treatment methods have been exhausted, such as counselling or behavioural therapy. Zolpidem is similar to other drugs like Zopiclone and Eszopiclone.
Zolpidem is available as pills or tablets under the brand name Ambien or Stilnoct, or as an oral spray as Zolpimist. Zolpidem can also be prescribed under the brand name Intermezzo, which can help you to fall back asleep if you wake up during the night. Zolpidem (generic Ambien) can also help anxiety-related insomnia.
Zolpidem is prescription-only, available from your GP. It is also possible to buy Zolpidem online, from a registered online UK pharmacy. You can also buy other types of sleeping pills online, which may be more suitable for your condition.
For further information, you can refer to the patient information leaflet
if you are unsure.
How it works
Zolpidem works by affecting chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people suffering from a sleeping disorder. If you have difficulty falling asleep, Zolpidem decreases the sleep onset time to around 15 minutes, which will help you fall asleep faster. Zolpidem can also help you remain asleep for a longer period of time. Buy zolpidem
Zolpidem is a temporary solution for a sleeping problem, and should not be relied upon long-term to cure insomnia or sleep deprivation.

Zolpidem contains lactose. If you are lactose intolerant, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.
Zolpidem can impair your reactions and your thinking. It’s possible for you to wake up the next morning and still feel tired or fatigued. You should wait until you’re feeling fully alert, or at least 4 hours after waking, before you drive or operate machinery.
If you are taking antidepressants at the same time as Zolpidem, including bupropion, desipramine and fluoxetine, there is an increased risk that you may experience hallucinations.
There are reports that in certain patients who have taken Zolpidem have driven, made telephone calls, walked, and engaged in sexual activity while taking Zolpidem, without any memory of having performed these actions. This is called parasomnia, and it is rare – in a 2009 study that took place in Taiwan, 13 out of 255 patients exhibited symptoms of parasomnia.
If this happens to you, you must stop taking the medication immediately and consult your doctor. It has also been suggested that Zolpidem can have pain relief effects, however Zolpidem should only be used to treat sleeping problems.
Zolpidem is highly habit forming. It is a short term medication, and should be taken as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. You MUST NOT share this medication with anyone else, as dosages can be different for men and women. You also must not share it with anyone with a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

The typical dose is 5mg once per day for elderly adults, and 10mg per day for men and women.
If you are prescribed Ambien Zolpidem 10mg sleeping tablets, do not crush or chew them – swallow the Ambien pill whole.
If you are prescribed Zolpimist, prime the spray before first use with several sprays into the air, and then spray onto your tongue. You do not need to prime the spray after this, unless it has been left unused for a period of 14 days.
It is inadvisable for you to take Zolpidem while travelling, especially if you intend to take it to fall asleep on a train or aeroplane. Amnesia is very common if you do not get a full 7-8 hours of sleep while under the influence of Zolpidem.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How long should I take Zolpidem?
Zolpidem is a sedative, only for use as treatment for sleeping problems, and should be taken for as long as prescribed by your doctor. Typically, they will prescribe a short-term course of around 2-4 weeks. However, if the medication is not effective within 7-10 days of taking it, or your symptoms become more severe, you must consult your doctor.
Is it dangerous if I miss a dose?
It is unlikely for you to miss a dose seeing as Zolpidem is taken before going to sleep. However it is unlikely to carry any significant risks if you miss a dose.
Can I double up for a missed dose?
No. You must never double up for a missed dose. You must also not take Zolpidem if you are not able to guarantee a full night of sleep, nor should you take it after your bedtime if you miss your usual dosage time.
